Albert Herring | 2 Sessions | $33
Downton Abbey has nothing on Loxford, where Lady Billows tells us the birthrate rises every week and the doctor is run off his feet delivering new babies to mothers, few of whom have taken the trouble of visiting the vicar. Her housekeeper has the dirt on all the local girls (Edith Chase, for example, opened the door to the postman in her nightie!) and none of them are pure enough to be the May Queen. Then there is poor, simple Albert—at least, until someone spikes his lemonade! Tuition includes a ticket to the Florentine Opera performance on March 8, 2013 at Vogel Hall.

Prospect • Wednesdays 7:00-7:55pm
4996 • 2/27 & 3/6/13
Instructor: Phillip Pearl

Prospect • Fridays 12:00-12:55pm

Bluebeard's Castle | 2 Sessions | $33
Based loosely on the folk tale of Bluebeard the wife-killer, the script for Bartok's only opera, long considered "unperformable," is given a heavily psychological reworking—some would say psychoanalytic or even psychosexual Judith has eloped with Duke Bluebeard, a serial wife-killer. She wants him to open all the doors in his castle to allow light into the forbidding interior. He reluctantly agrees, with disastrous results. Tuition includes a ticket to the MSO performance on March 15, 2013.

Prospect • Wednesdays 8:00-8:55pm
4997 • 3/6 & 3/13/13
Instructor: Phillip Pearl

Prospect • Fridays 1:00-1:55pm

The opera is considered to be one of the all-time masterpieces of music theatre. Come and find out why. Tuition includes a ticket to the Florentine Opera performance on May 10, 2013.

The Dream of Gerontius | 2 Sessions | $33 enrollnow_icon-(7).jpg
The text of The Dream of Gerontius is by John Henry Newman, an Anglican priest whose conversion to Roman Catholicism caused a great scandal in England. The Dream of Gerontius relates the journey of a pious man's soul from his deathbed to his judgement before God and settling in Purgatory. Although it had a catastrophic premier, it established itself in subsequent performances and is Elgar's finest choral work—some consider it his masterpiece. Hear selections conducted by the composer himself! Tuition includes a ticket to the MSO performance on May 31, 2013.

Prospect • Wednesdays 7:00-7:55pm
4999 • 5/22 & 5/29/13
Instructor: Phillip Pearl

Prospect • Fridays 12:00-12:55pm
