Read and recreate new stories each semester! Children's imaginations will soar as they recreate storybook tales through dramatization, music and dance. Sing your way through this theme-based class! Each week children will explore the components that go into writing a song while learning beginning vocal technique. Students will have fun with improvisation and acting games, lyric writing, melody creation, and exploring notation. This semester focuses on "Exploring the Mountains." The last class culminates in a presentation of the piece for parents/ caregivers. Students will receive a printed copy of the music they created!

Learn to play the snare drum, marimba, timpani, xylophone, conga, bongos, drum set and various hand drums. This class emphasizes the ensemble aspects of world music utilizing hand drums, small percussion instruments and Orff xylophones. Students will explore the cultural history of music from Africa, the Caribbean and Brazil. The class enhances listening skills, musicality and working as a team. Students will learn to improvise and have the opportunity to compose their own pieces while learning traditional drumming/percussion skills, recognizing polyrhythmic patterns and music reading. A performance at the last class completes the experience.

Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Guitar
The Conservatory's Suzuki program includes both weekly individual instruction as well as group classes.
Your child will take:
- 15 weeks of Individual Instruction (30 minutes for Books 1 and 2; 45 minutes for Books 3 through 5) at one of the Prospect, Wilson Center or Audubon Court branches.
- 10 weeks of Group Classes (55 or 70 minutes), culminating in a joint concert as the last class.
In the group class, students will polish techniques and musical concepts learned in the private lesson, develop ensemble skills and experience the fun and motivation of playing with other kids. Each group session will also include a theory component, where students will work on note reading and writing, ear training, the meaning of symbols, intervals, chords, notation, music vocabulary and how these important musical elements relate to their instrument. The Suzuki program also includes studio and department recitals, and a new family orientation.
The Suzuki philosophy calls for active parental participation in the child’s lessons and classes, and in their daily practice. Individual lessons will be scheduled with instructor.

Music is a powerful sensory stimulus capable of engaging the brain in multiple ways. Participation in music based activities can shape productive behavior, improve communication, focus attention, and enhance cognition. This class will be split into individualized sections. This group is specially designed for children who are showing delays in social development and beneficial for children with attention disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and other social disorders.
