Pre-School and Children's Classes K4 - Grade 3

Whether your child is transitioning from Early Childhood classes or joining the Conservatory of Music for the first time, these classes provide a solid foundation before beginning Individual Instruction. In small group classes children are encouraged to expand their musical horizons by discovering, experiencing, analyzing and creating music in a relaxed and fun learning environment. Children learn to sing or play an instrument as well as learn basic music and rhythm concepts through games and creative activities. Parents are not required in these classes. K4-Grade 3

Imagine That and Sing $146

Recreate new stories each semester! Children’s imaginations will soar as they recreate storybook tales through singing, dramatization and movement. Each week your child will bring music and performing arts themed books (such as Grandfather Twilight and Zin, Zin, Zin the Violin) to life using theatrical exercises, sing-a-longs and movement games. Children will explore pitch, volume, rhythm and space as they learn beginning musical concepts and how to sing. Ages 4-5 years. 12 wks.

Make Music with Me $146

Learn new concepts and songs each semester! Introduce your child to the joy of making music with others. This class emphasizes the ensemble aspects of music through playing wooden mallet instruments, song, expressive movement, improvisation and storytelling. While enjoying creative musical games, your child will learn music concepts such as form, dynamics and phrasing. Your child will also develop skills such as singing in tune, recognizing rhythm patterns and melodic intervals, and reading and writing music. Your child will gain both music literacy and an enjoyment of music, which will prepare them for further instrumental or vocal studies. K5-grade 2. 12 wks.

Hand Drumming Discoveries $146

Hand Drumming for Kids $146

Learn the basic hand patterns and techniques to play Afro-Caribbean rhythms. Traditional rhythms and exercises will be combined with improvisational rhythm games. Emphasis will be placed on proper technique for congas with the goal of performing together in an ensemble. Purchase of a hand drum is not required. Instruments are provided for class use. Beginning Guitar for Kids $244

This class provides a nurturing and relaxed learning environment combining classical and folk guitar styles. Students will learn basic guitar fundamentals including how to read music, count rhythms, play melodies, and perform a variety of strumming and picking patterns. Students will need an age-appropriate guitar: 3/4 to full size nylon-string classical or steel-string acoustic guitar. Parents are required to attend the last 5 minutes of each class. Kids Cabaret $244

Let’s put on a show! If you love to sing and dance, this class is for you. Students will learn some great musical theater songs, both old and new as well as basics of stage movement. This class provides opportunities to learn the fundamentals of singing, learn solo and ensemble repertoire, develop creativity, make friends and build self confidence. No experience necessary. Theory is Fun 1, 2 & 3: Music Theory for Young Players $122

These classes will teach young string, wind, and piano players basic theory. Students will work on note reading and writing, ear training, the meaning of symbols, intervals, chords, notation, music vocabulary and how these important musical elements relate to their instrument. New students are asked to call the registration office to set up a placement meeting with the String Department Chair. Grades 2-8. 10 wks.

Orchestra Discoveries $122

Orchestra Discoveries provides string players who have strong note reading skills the opportunity to play in their first orchestra! In addition to ensemble listening skills, students will learn basic orchestral techniques, sight reading tips, how to rehearse and how to follow a conductor. The class culminates with a performance in the last week.
Requirements: Violin-Suzuki Book 4 or equivalent, Viola-Suzuki Book 3 or equivalent, Cello-Suzuki Book 2 or equivalent, Bass-Suzuki Book 1 or equivalent. Grades 3-9. 10 wks.

New Class! ‘Tween’ girls will have the opportunity to explore and develop their creative side as they create their own unique music. In the process of organic music making students will experience body percussion, play hand drums and other fun and unique instruments. Girls will learn to become better listeners, better team players, develop problem solving skills and increase self confidence as they experience the benefits of working cooperatively with others.
