Learn the basic hand patterns and techniques to play Afro-Caribbean rhythms. Traditional rhythms and exercises will be combined with improvisational rhythm games. Emphasis will be placed on proper technique for congas with the goal of performing together in an ensemble. Purchase of a hand drum is not required. Instruments are provided for class use. Learn basic violin technique, pitch development, rudiments of note reading and music literacy. Students will develop ensemble skills as they learn to play melodies and harmony to folk songs, easy classical pieces and fiddle tunes. For children who have never played the violin or for those who would like a review. A limited number of violins are available from the Conservatory for a $20 rental fee. (Violins are also available for rent at local music stores). Music will be provided. Grades 2-6. 15 wks.
