Learn to play the rhythms of Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. This course emphasizes proper hand technique for congas, bongos, timbales, and other percussion instruments. Purchase of a hand drum is not required. Instruments are provided for class use. 15 wks.
Students will learn basic techniques and fundamental rhythms, presented against a historical backdrop to facilitate the understanding and playing of specific Afro-Caribbean styles.

Students will expand their rhythmic vocabulary and learn improvisation, ensemble playing, and the integration of Afro-Caribbean rhythms in popular music genres such as R&B, Rock and Jazz. Prerequisite: Completion of Level 1 or consent of instructor.

Students will rehearse and perform in an orchestra of all-percussion instruments including mallet keyboard, timpani, snare drum, drum set, auxiliary percussion and hand drums. Expand your reading, aural and ensemble skills. Basic music reading skills are required. Prerequisite: Placement hearing or consent of instructor. Percussionist should prepare one or more of the following: snare drum, mallet keyboard, timpani or drum set solo(s). Please call Student Services to schedule a placement hearing. 10 wks.
