Wisconsin Conservatory of Music
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Regular attendance at lessons is expected. Instructors are not required to make up lessons that a student has missed and are only offered at the instructor's discretion. There will be no make-up lessons for those classes missed because of late payment. Lessons missed on the account of the instructor will be made up.
Class Cancellation
The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment. In the event a class is canceled, you will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another class. If you do not enroll in another class you will receive a full refund.
Tuition and Fees
Tuition and fees are due at the time of registration. Payments may be made with check, cash, MasterCard or Visa. Full payment or installment payment arrangements (Fall and Spring only) must be made before instruction may begin. Continuing students must pay full tuition by the first day of the semester. For payment plans and policies, please contact the Student Services at 414-276-5760.
Activity Fees
• $40 per year per family is charged to individuals or families initially registered for the Fall semester. This activity fee covers the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters.
• $25 per year per family is changed to individuals or families initially registering for the Spring semester. This activity fee covers the Spring and Summer semesters.
• $10 per year per family is changed to individual or families initially registering for the Summer semester. There is no activity fee for summer camps or workshops.
• The activity fee is non-refundable. The only exception is if the class is cancelled by the Conservatory.
Tuition Payment Plan
A Tuition Payment Plan is available during the Fall and Spring semesters for private lessons only. If the Tuition Payment Plan is chosen, the first payment, the activity fee, plus a $15 service fee is due before lessons begin. If the student is delinquent in payment, the Conservatory reserves the right to discontinue instruction until payment obligations are met. There will be no make-up lessons for those lessons missed because of late payment. Students on the Tuition Payment Plan who discontinue instruction during a semester are still responsible for full payment of that semester's tuition and fees.
Withdrawals and Refunds:
A withdrawal is considered the discontinuation of any or all studies at the Conservatory. All requests for withdrawals must be submitted, in writing, to the Student Services Manager before any student will be considered withdrawn. Verbal requests or notification of intention to withdraw made directly to a student's instructor do not fulfill this requirement. The date of which the written withdrawal is received by the Conservatory, not the last date of attendance, is considered as the official date of withdrawal. Tuition refunds will be considered when written notice of withdrawal is received.
Withdrawal from Classes:
100% of the tuition is refundable if the student withdraws before classes or lessons begin; 75% of the tuition is refundable during the first week; 50% during the second week; and 25% during the third week of the semester. No refunds will be issued after the fourth week of the semester. Refunds because of a student's withdrawal are for tuition only.
Withdrawal from Lessons
A student who wishes to withdraw from individual instruction must give the Student Services office two weeks written (or email) notice. The student is responsible for payment for those two lessons and may attend them if he or she chooses. Informing a teacher of intent to withdraw does not constitute adequate notice to Student Services. If proper notification has been received, the student will be refunded for any lessons remaining beyond the two-week notification period.
The Activity Fee is non-refundable. Complete refunds (including the Activity Fee) will be issued only if a class is canceled by the Conservatory or the instructor.
Discounts
o A tuition discount of 10% is offered to the second and subsequent registrants within the same family.
o A 10% discount is available to all persons age 62 and above.
o Other discounts as advertised.
o Discounts may not be combined.
F A Q
How do I sign up for lessons?
The Registration office staff keeps information on instructors' availability, locations where they teach, tuition rates, styles, and prerequisites. We will ask you some questions about your musical background (Have you studied before? Do you read music?) and about your schedule, length and number of lessons, preference for location and other factors. Based on this information we will recommend a teacher to fit your needs. In order for the teacher to be contacted and lessons set up, we need to have payment. This can be accomplished over the phone with MasterCard or Visa, via mail with a personal check or Money Order, or in person at our Prospect Avenue location. Your instructor will call and confirm your lesson time. If you've taken lessons in the previous semester, your instructor will notify the registration office about your intent to continue. This is done about a month before each new semester is due to begin.
What if I need to miss a lesson?
Regular attendance at lessons is expected. Instructors are not required to make up lessons that a student has missed and are only offered at the instructor's discretion. We suggest that you check with your teacher to make sure you understand his/her attendance and make-up policy. There will be no make-up lessons for those classes missed because of late payment. Any lesson that the instructor has to miss will be made up.
Why can't I find time with an instructor?
The Conservatory has nearly 80 faculty members - so we have great flexibility in finding someone to accommodate your schedule. In the event that we can't, we'll make a complete refund of your tuition and fees.
What if I want to take a class or sign up for an ensemble?
Registering for classes is easy! Class schedules are published in the Fall catalog and in our Spring and Summer catalog updates; an online class listing is also available at www.wcmusic.org. Registration can take place via phone with MasterCard or Visa, via mail or in person at our Prospect Avenue location. Once payment is received, the student is added to the class list. We recommend early registration as class size may be limited. Registering for an ensemble follows the same process. A placement hearing or interview may be necessary to insure that you are placed in an ensemble appropriate to your skill level. Placement hearing dates are listed in the catalogs or may be arranged by appointment.
