The Dorothea Music Library

The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music offers a comprehensive music library to its students and faculty. Named in honor of the late Dorothea Mayer, the Dorothea Music Library is located on the lower level of the Prospect Avenue branch. Its holdings comprise more than 37,000 books, scores, CDs and DVDs.

Since the school’s founding in 1899, the Conservatory has prided itself on being able to provide its students with access to materials that broaden their musical experiences. This extensive, carefully chosen collection of books on music-related topics includes composer and performer biographies and works on theory and music history. Instrumentalists and vocalists also have a great resource in the library’s selection of classical voice, piano, and chamber music scores.

Recent acquisitions include the Ron Cuzner jazz donation of 10,000 CDs, the latest edition of the 29-volume New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, and all 118 Aebersold “Jazz Playalongs” on CD.

Students and faculty may use the library and check out items free of charge. Non-conservatory users may access library materials on a limited basis, with approval from the librarian.
