South American Rhythms Workshop

Colombian-born Carlos Serrano was a participant in the 2018 Camino Arts Guitar Workshop in Carrion de los Condes (Spain), and conducted the 2018 UCC Guitar Festival Orchestra. He also brings with him experience from the Latino Arts Strings Program in Milwaukee and Vivace Arts Conservatory in Miami, Florida.
Join Carlos for a free South American Rhythms Workshop, open to students of all instruments and skill levels. The workshop will explore rhythms from the Argentinean pampas to the northern tip of Colombia, while discovering how all of these popular styles can be inter-related.

Meet Carlos
Born in Bogota (Colombia), Carlos Serrano began playing the guitar at age 15 and learning Classical Guitar at age 19. He is a prize winner of the 19th Annual FIU Concerto Competition and received the Honorary Mention in the 2016 South Florida Young Artist Competition. Serrano holds a bachelor’s degree in classical guitar performance from Florida International University and is currently completing his master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Serrano has studied with Italian guitarist Federico Bonacossa, Turkish guitar composer Mesut Ozgen, Cuban virtuosi Rafael Padron, and guitarist Rene Izquierdo.
