Friend and Supporter of WCM for Over 60 Years

Judith Goetz

Judith’s connection to WCM began in the 1960s, when she was looking for a music school for her son. As a child, she was taught to learn notes and rhythms before beginning an instrument at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and she wanted the same for her own children here in Milwaukee. Eager for her first son to learn, Judith started teaching classes at the Conservatory. As her family grew, so did her classes, adding on levels so eventually all three children could participate. Many students got their start in music through their WCM classes with Judith.

Although Judith loved teaching these general music classes, piano had always played a huge role in her life. She had hoped to obtain a degree in piano in college but wasn’t able to in order to keep up with her English degree. Finally, after hearing renowned pianist and WCM artist Rebecca Penneys play, she told her husband, “I want to play like that!”, and soon enrolled as a freshman at WCM. After 8 years, Judith fulfilled her dreams and graduated with a piano degree. She remains close friends with Rebecca to this day.
